Beethoven and Prokofiev, SA Symphony

Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto was inspired by Mozart and includes some of his most beautiful, sensual and ethereal music. In the sweet sounds of this concerto, many times one stumbles upon fleeting glimpses of the “ghost of Mozart,” but Beethoven’s own musical personality shines through as he forges his own definitively creative path. Prokofiev wrote his Fifth Symphony during WWII and said, “It is a symphony about the spirit of man.” Rich in melody and contrastingly urgent motor-like rhythms, this symphony is a display of starkly shifting moods and emotions, not unlike the changing landscapes of a human life.
