Schubert’s last symphony was dubbed “The Great” for its majesty and grandeur. Schumann thought it the greatest instrumental work since the death of Beethoven. The word “great” also comes to mind in reference to the key of E-flat major. Some of classical music’s most heroic music is in the key of E-flat, as are our two trumpet concertos interpreted with musical mastery by soloist Tine Thing Helseth. Her extraordinary playing will capture the splendor of the two most universally loved trumpets concertos in the literature, composed by Hummel and Haydn.
